Carbon steel reactor

Overview

Carbon steel reactors, often referred to as “iron reactors” in common terms, are counterparts to stainless steel reactors. They are fabricated from carbon steel materials such as Q235B and Q345R, which are typical carbon steel grades. Generally used in non – clean environments, they serve as comprehensive reaction vessels. Detailed designs of their structure, functions, and accessory configurations are tailored to process conditions. While carbon steel reactors were once widely used in chemical production, they have been increasingly replaced by stainless steel ones in recent years. Automated operations can be implemented for the entire process from feeding, reaction to discharging, with strict control over key parameters like temperature, pressure, agitation, reactant concentration, and automatic feeding during the reaction.

Structure

A carbon steel reactor consists of the reactor body, reactor cover (head), jacket or coil (for heating/cooling circulation), agitation device, shaft sealing device, supports (legs), and thermal insulation medium.

The reactor system is equipped with key components including a transmission device, mechanical sealing device, temperature control device, cooling (heating) device, weighing and metering device, and liquid level display device

Nozzle Configuration

The reactor body is outfitted with a manhole, vent, sight glass with  spotlight, temperature sensor, pressure gauge, vacuum gauge, bottom – opening discharge valve, etc. Process nozzles can be added or removed as per user requirements, and nozzle connections are designed and fabricated strictly in accordance with standards.

Functions

Carbon steel reactors offer functions such as heating, cooling, thermal insulation, agitation, and metering, finding extensive applications in industries like coatings, building materials, chemicals, pigments, and resins. Depending on production and process needs, systems for heating, cooling, low – speed/high – speed agitation, sealed pressure – bearing, and metering can be designed. For different material mixing requirements, agitation impeller structures can be designed as turbine – type, paddle – type, anchor – type, frame – type, helical ribbon – type, magnetic agitation, etc. Custom – designed impellers are also feasible to meet specific material mixing demands of users.
