Small-scale Extraction and Concentration Unit

Overview

The small-scale extraction and concentration unit is a complete set of equipment designed for extraction and concentration, primarily used for traditional Chinese medicine extraction, volatile oil recovery, and medicinal liquid concentration. It can meet various extraction requirements, including:

  • Volatile oil extraction, water extraction, alcohol extraction, animal viscera extraction, fractional extraction, and thermal (warm) reflux extraction;
  • The extraction liquid can be concentrated or turned into ointment, and organic solvents can be recovered;

The equipment features a reasonable and compact design with a small and aesthetic appearance, ensuring ease of operation and maintenance. It is manufactured using stretch-flanging and dead-angle-free welding processes, complying with GMP hygienic standards, and enabling easy cleaning and disinfection.

Working Principle

  1. Material Loading and Solvent Addition:
    Place medicinal materials into the extraction tank, and add 5-10 times the solvent (e.g., water, ethanol, methanol, acetone) as per process requirements.
  2. Heating and Initial Extraction:
    Activate the extraction tank’s heating system to bring the extraction liquid to a boil. After 20-30 minutes, pump 1/3 of the extraction liquid into the concentration tank via a suction filter tube.
  3. Concentration Operation:
    • Turn off the extraction tank’s direct heating and jacketed hot water, then activate the concentration tank’s heating system to maintain the concentrated liquid at ~80°C.
    • Maintain a vacuum degree of -0.05 to -0.08 MPa. Secondary steam generated during concentration is condensed by a condenser and cooler, returning to the extraction tank as fresh solvent.
  4. Reflux Extraction Cycle:
    The recycled solvent flows through the medicinal materials from top to bottom, dissolving soluble components. The extracted liquid is pumped back to the concentration tank, while new secondary steam repeats the reflux process until the extraction liquid becomes colorless (indicating complete dissolution).
  5. Final Concentration and Solvent Recovery:
    • Continue concentration until the ointment reaches the required specific gravity. The colorless liquid in the extraction tank can be reused for the next batch.
    • For organic solvent extraction: Add water, activate heating to recover the solvent, then discharge the residue.
